Since the flood, the plague, the Decameron, Napoleon, the world wars, Korea, Vietnam, Angola, 911NYC, Etc. Etc. the experience of “this everything” will always change with chaos.

Until now, after each horrendous event, architecture has evolved, but always if the same approaches have repeated cases, only that changes and 'modernizes' the response.

example:

* In NYork they destroy the World Trade Center towers and make another symbolic and more striking building.

* After a hurricane in many places they replace the same, questionnaires to fortify roofs or raise the level of the floor to avoid floods.

* With earthquakes the sound changes structures but you have to foresee much more.

* Covid-19 requires a simultaneous and global social change that affects social behavior and human behaviors (whether they are rich or poor, living in a hot or cold zone). The concept that 'after it rains, it will be cancelled’, it will not be valid for some time (a country can eliminate the disease, there are human habits that can reproduce it, an external visitor, our customs are distinctive, they can make us relapse, or vice versa)

I do not think that 'Covid-19 will bring us the Messiah' (?), But we can foresee a solution with less density avoiding crowds, we will think how to foresee other alternatives from architecture and environmental design and reorder human, social behaviors, etc. . .

The abrupt jump to a planetary and simultaneous scale that has a covid tax, demanding strict social distancing throughout the earth, cases seems a matter of science fiction. Think of starting from this situation as a new vision of architecture, construction and the relationship between architecture and the natural environment and the opening of society.

The masters of architecture have always launched their "new vision" but if they compete from the pyramids, to the emperor Hadrian, Le Corbusier, FLL Wright, Piano, Pei, etc., etc. it is the changes and impositions of individual styles and concepts that reiterate the will and style of Cultures and creators of "models" that are open and ready solutions for Change.

With the exception of the vernacular house (very humble and sometimes transformable and almost elastic according to needs), architecture bears the stamp of its architects (but rarely that of its inhabitants).

If in rare situations - such as the current one-, residents on a planetary scale must adapt their environment or relocate themselves, then various alternatives must be foreseen (temporary, emergency, or at least think of flexible transformation alternatives, etc.). The alliance architect and industrial designer, which before was almost univocal and today is separating as independent professions, must be reviewed.

Will it be possible to serve everyone? You also have to see restrictions of a land or area, economic and scale aspects.

Who can access these changes today? What number of people, what economic, cultural level, etc.

What techniques, materials, construction systems, can be viable? Should we see from the possibilities offered by the construction with earth to those of the 3 D printer?

In which places is it possible to admit these changes? Let's think the compact city, or a heritage site, or the free field is not the same.

Traditionally, the house made for a client who wishes to live in their own way is not the same as the house (or apartment) that is rented according to the available resources. Nor is it the same to act at different times than to adjust everything in the same simultaneous moment, or crisis.

Someone always wants or needs to change something and disasters are a turning point.

For centuries, architecture has imposed trends and many times such ideas invite or impose lifestyles and not all humans can or want to access it. Maybe you should define a scope and agree with your teacher to be able to give 1 (or better, several alternative answers in a broader, wider range)

For centuries, the use of walls, partitions, partitions to separate functions (many times very solid - of bricks, etc.) has become repetitive and progressively these partitions have become lighter in designs, facilitating multipurpose use. Many dividing elements are already movable and facilitate the quick conversion of spaces. (worth insisting !!)

In other aspects, too, technology has modified construction and some components have moved to the scale of furniture with industrial design and production that simplify complexity for architecture (the phone no longer requires a space, nor does TV and entertainment because they are used mobile teams or connect taking advantage of "the internet of things" and the user becomes "architect" foreseeing more dynamic activities and spaces.

In another approach, the growing interest in the environment and energy savings lead architecture to search for resilient solutions that take advantage of solar energy, save water, link nature, etc. The link between architecture and nature needs to be studied better. In this field, there is data that the pandemic brings and, reviewing it with bio-architecture experts, perhaps they can see clues for the search for a better future.

Those of us who are close to or over 60 years of age are discovering a more difficult (or simple?) Outlook for the future, and thus the increasing human longevity will demand more participatory urbanism and architecture, "greener" but also more inclusive with children and granddaughters. To this social situation, we must also add the rational use of resources, attention to climate change, the economy necessary to increase accessibility to decent housing, and expand access to other links.
